PASSION, FLAMES, DESIRE AND DIVORCE
"I think very few people are completely normal really, deep down
in their private lives" ~ Amanda
Elyot and Amanda are a former husband and wife who find themselves in
adjoining rooms at a seaside Normandy hotel-they are each on their
honeymoon, with new spouses, Sibyl and Victor, in tow. They decamp together
to Paris, only to discover that their mutual aggravation still burns almost
as tempestuously as their love.
"Gabrielle Rose's Amanda is as near perfect a portrayal as I've
seen"~ The Vancouver Courier
"The cast of characters is irresistibly entertaining." ~
New York Herald Tribune
"...one of the most incessantly flippant plays ever written."
~ The Express, London
In the 1931 Broadway premiere, Coward himself starred opposite Gertrude
Lawrence, with a young Laurence Olivier as Victor. Subsequent Broadway
revivals have featured such notables as Maggie Smith, Elizabeth Taylor and
Richard Burton, Brian Bedford and Tammy Grimes, Joan Collins, and Tallulah
Bankhead.
A Note from Bill
To present one of Noel Coward's works in our fortieth season is a natural
fit, as he has been an integral part of the Arts Club Theatre Company's
history. It is our pleasure to welcome back one of our most distinguished
alumni.
