CLASSES IN PLAYWRITING
Four months of playwriting classes at the Arts Club Theatre with
playwright Shawn Macdonald, both live and online in the TELUS Classroom,
includes ground breaking exercises, how to write a full-length play,
creation of a short play, online chats, personal feedback on work
submitted, access to the online classroom for Leap students only, special
guest speakers.

LEARN HOW TO PRODUCE YOUR PLAYS
Discussions on how to re-write a play after a reading, how to submit a
play to a theatre, and information on international youth playwriting
competitions and opportunities
All students accepted into the program will be on FULL SCHOLARSHIP. The students will have to arrange their own transportation to and from the Arts Club playwriting classes, readings, and shows.

1-2 page sample of ANY writing you feel good about. This could be a poem, essay, monologue, scene, short play, letter, whatever you like. It can be something you wrote previously, or hot off the presses. 2 pages Maximum, 12 point font.

DATES
Monday OR Tuesday evenings from November 26 to December 18, January 14 to
March 4; on-site classes at the Arts Club Theatre.
Online-January 14-March 4; online classes overlap with on-site classes during this time.
February 11-13: Presentation of Short Plays at ReACT, the Arts Club's festival of new plays.
Field trips to Arts Club shows, dates and times to be arranged.
INSTRUCTOR/PROGRAM LEADER:
Shawn
Macdonald is an award-winning playwright and actor.
His play Prodigal
Son won the Jessie Award for Outstanding Original Script last year. He
co-wrote the comedies World’s Greatest Guy and Fear Knot (with Gary
Jones) for the
Arts Club Theatre Company and his newest play The Fall of Sister
Judy was commissioned by the Arts Club Theatre Company as part of the Silver
Commissions Program.
